Okangan AIDS Walk 2010

14th Annual AIDS Walk

About the AIDS Walk

Living Positive Resource Centre is the official agency within the Interior Health Region responsible for support and education services regarding HIV, AIDS, hepatitis B/C and other blood-borne pathogens. We work from a client-centered self-empowerment model and we provide service in all communities from Enderby to Osoyoos to Princeton.

Based on a common misconception that HIV and AIDS can be cured, people are not taking the proper precautions to prevent infections. As a result, we are seeing an increasing rate of infection. According to the most recent UNAIDS Report, more than 34 million people are living with HIV and AIDS, and half of all new infections worldwide are occurring among young people.

With the purpose of reducing the impact of HIV, AIDS and hepatitis C, LPRC offers support, awareness, education, and prevention programs to meet the needs of those living with these diseases, and provide the knowledge and tools necessary to promote a safe society empowered to live at its full potential.

To lower the incidence of new HIV infections and improve the quality of life for those infected or affected, we have developed a number of approaches to increase general awareness of HIV and AIDS in the communities we serve.

The Okanagan AIDS Walk is one of them.

The Okanagan AIDS Walk raises funds that stay in the Okanagan region to support programs that work towards ensuring the health and quality of life for our clients. The money raised helps to continue public education programs which focus on prevention and awareness here at home.

We want to invite you to join us on Sunday, September 19th, 2010, for the 14th Annual Okanagan AIDS Walk sponsored by Interior Savings.

The Walk will be held at Kerry Park in Kelowna. Registration and a pancake breakfast  will start at 9 AM, with the walk beginning at 10:30 AM, and  prizes and awards to follow
